AHA Releases 2020 Heart Disease & Stroke Statistics Update
The American Heart Association has released their 2020 statistical update report on heart disease and stroke within the U.S., presenting the latest data on a range of major clinical heart and circulatory disease conditions and their associated outcomes. According to the report, obesity rates have increased with nearly 40% of adults and 18.5% of young people within the U.S. now obese.
Autoimmunity and the Onset of Diabetes
A recent study has found that autoimmunity may play a role in the onset of diabetes after 40 years of age. The study's researchers asserted that the findings may be cause to re-evaluate the present sub-classification of diabetes in adulthood.
FDA Approves First Triple Combination Pill for Type 2 Diabetes
The FDA has recently approved the use of Trijardy XR to lower blood sugar in adults with type diabetes along with diet and exercise. The pill--the first of it's kind to be approved by the FDA-- combines three T2D medicines into one pill including SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin, the DPP-4 inhibitor linagliptin, and metformin hydrochloride extended release.
Heart Failure Management & Electronic Health Records
A recent study published in the JACC: Heart Failure has found that while modern EHR systems provide tools that can improve the quality and efficiency of heart failure and management, they are widely underutilized. The study review describes how the appropriate use of EHRs can help improve the standard of care for patients with congestive heart failure.
