Large Scale Analysis Examines Effect on Smoking on Outcomes of Primary PCI in Patients with STEMI
In a recent large-scale individual patient-data pooled analysis, smoking was unrelelated to microvascular obstructions or infarct size, but was associated with worse prognosis after primary PCI in STEMI. According the researchers: "The smoker’s paradox may be explained by the younger age and fewer cardiovascular risk factors in smokers compared with nonsmokers."
CDC Publishes Stats Surrounding Total and High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Adults from 2015-2018
In mid-April, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published updated findings regarding the total and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in adults from 2015-2018. The results demonstrated that during this period 11.4% of adults had total cholesterol--with prevalence similar by race and Hispanic origin., and with rates highest among adults aged 40-59.
